Scholarship Program

Congratulations to our 2026 Scholarship Winners

We wish them all the best!

In 2026 we did not have a four-year scholarship winner.  The Board decided to award each applicant a one time scholarship of $500 in recognition of their outstanding academic and community achievements. You have our best wishes for continued success

The Death Valley ’49ers scholarship program provides four-year academic scholarships to eligible students in the Death Valley region. One or more $18,000 ($4,500 per academic year) scholarships are offered each year to graduating high school seniors.

On Wednesday, May 27th, Death Valley '49ers Treasurer Joe McDonald presented a cash award and certificate to Elizabeth Fuller.  She intends to seek a career in nursing. We wish her the best!  Pahrump Valley High School takes their scholarships and awards very seriously and the evening was very nice for the students.

Background

The mission of the scholarship program is to serve families who serve the park. This includes students whose parents or legal guardians work or volunteer for any of the following:

  • Death Valley Conservancy
  • Death Valley National Park, including Ash Meadows
  • Death Valley Natural History Association
  • Panamint Springs
  • Stovepipe Wells
  • Timbisha Shoshone Tribe
  • Xanterra - The Oasis at Death Valley

When the scholarship program was started in 1976, eligibility was limited to students of Death Valley Academy at Shoshone, Calif. At that time most employee families lived at Cow Creek or Furnace Creek and students were bused to Shoshone. With many employee families now living in adjacent communities, eligibility has been expanded to include students residing at Beatty, Pahrump, Trona, and Shoshone.
