Benefit Concert featuring Kristyn Harris

Unless you attended and were able to hear the melodious sound of Kristyn echoing throughout the Opera House there are no words that can truly describe the music.  We are grateful to Fred Conboy, President, Board of Directors and Emilee Brown, Hotel Manager for hosting this event.  Those that attended were given a history lesson by Fred about the Opera House and the meaning behind the murals that Marta Becket painted.

The Death Valley ’49ers gave $1,500 to the Amargosa Opera House, Inc.[501 (c)(3)] and that money will go towards preserving this very special piece of history fournd at Death Valley Junction in Amargosa Valley.

The Amargosa Opera House website has a wonderful documentary “Dust Devil” about Marta Becket.

Kristyn Harris

The Death Valley ’49ers are grateful for Kristyn to join us from Texas for our event. Shortly after singing on stage for us Saturday night, a friend accepted an award she had won on that same night. Congratulations Kristyn!

International Western Music Association

2023 Female Performer of the Year

Kristyn Harris, of Burleson, Texas, is a multi award winning singer, songwriter and entertainer known for her western swing spin on original and classic songs of the western and rural lifestyle. She is recognized for her powerful voice, swing rhythm guitar chops, songwriting, yodeling, and energetic stage presence, as well as the passion and authenticity that she puts into each performance.

Kristyn tours across the U.S. and internationally, both as a solo artist as well as with various band configurations. Outside of music, her time is spent with her herd of black angus cattle, working her newest colt, or trick riding. Her most recent album, “A Place to Land”, was awarded Outstanding Western Album by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum for 2020.

Old West Trio

Once again we were entertained by this wonderful group of musicians. They not only performed every night but Leslie became the tour guide for Kristyn Harris; provided homemade cookies for concert attendees; made bandanas and neckties for our volunteers and is responisble for creating our newsletter and event promotional posters. THANK YOU!

Due to the colder temperatures in Nevada, they had to get through singing without chattering their teeth and warmed their hands between sets at a fire.  On Friday night, while some folks were at the concert at Amargosa Opera House, the Trio was able to make quick plans and move their concert into the onsite wedding chapel.  Although warmer, the wood pew seating made for some antsie concert goers. Saturday we adjusted the concert time to 4 pm so that everyone was able to enjoy and keep their fingers and toes warm.  Perseverance was the theme of the encampment!

Old West Trio performs songs of the American West. With the best of three voices, two guitars, and one bass, listeners can expect to hear elements of the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, and more with a peppering of swing, yodeling, and lighthearted fun. Group members Steve Johnson (lead guitar), Steve Ide (rhythm guitar), and Leslie Ide (bass) have been performing together for 20 years. They have appeared at the annual encampment since 2013.
